Expert Art Conservation & Masterful Art Restoration of a 19th-Century Damaged Icon Painting Using the Tratteggio Technique

This rare 19th-century post-Byzantine icon, previously damaged due to unprofessional cleaning interventions, was brought to VENIS STUDIOS for expert conservation and restoration. The artwork exhibited areas of paint loss, structural instability, and surface deterioration, all of which were meticulously addressed using scientifically informed methods. The retouching of damaged sections was executed with the Tratteggio/Rigatino technique, ensuring visual reintegration while respecting the icon’s original materials, historical authenticity, and artistic integrity. This project exemplifies VENIS STUDIOS’ commitment to museum-grade conservation and the delicate balance between scientific precision and aesthetic sensitivity.
